Wow. I made the right decision and decided to blow work on Friday to ski some powder. I was a bit apprehensive at first as it appeared that the rest of the world also decided to blow the day creating some of the largest first chair lineups I have ever seen. Some smart people hiked to the bottom of the Bear Chair and snaked three runs before most people even got off the quad. But crowds quickly dispersed and with all the mountain open relatively early there was enough powder for everyone. Cold temperatures kept the snow ultra fluffy but you had to watch for frost bite.
So just how fine was it? Halfway down Red Tree, with not a track in site, I had to stop because I couldnt keep the snow out of my mouth and I started choking. You know you are having a fabulous day when you almost suffocate and enjoy it. Probably one of the best days I have had in a few years.
Saturday brought more cold temperatures and with the hill chewed to pieces we decided to go ski touring. Blue skies and the same snow as yesterday made the 6500 feet of slogging more than bearable. It is a truly spectacular area we live in.
Sunday was going to be spent resting my poor weary calve muscles but heavy snowfall action lured me out in the afternoon for a few runs on the snowboard. The snow is supposed to continue on into the night so Monday could be another good day. Get out there and rip it up.
