Well the sun has made a grand appearance in the Elk Valley and is forecast to stay here for at least the next five days. Nice to see a blue sky (and stars in the evening) every once in a while during the winter months. Actually I would love to see it a lot more provided it followed a big metre dump.
But that doesnt seem to be the case in this very strange season that we are having. When the precipitation has fallen of late, it has generally been of the non frozen variety with temperatures almost reaching into the double digits. Yesterday was truly spring like in town.
I didnt actually go downhill skiing this weekend so this report is somewhat bias towards XC but from what other people had told me it was like skiing on concrete in the morning. Sean said he clipped a death cookie that removed his ski from his foot. The ski then proceeded to pass him as there just was no way the brake was going to engage in the snow. It might have softened up a bit on Saturday but Sunday stayed relatively cold so I am sure conditions were a bit on the firm side.
XC skiing on Saturday was really fun as the trails were soft and mushy from the warm temps. Sunday was a bit scarier as they were pretty solid and very fast. Not something you wanted to fall on.
So, when are we going to get some snow? All my friends talk about as of late is bike riding, which is cool but it is February, usually the snowiest month of the year!
