World Cup Weekend

Sunday

Rrrrrr…. Rrrrrr….. Rain. There I said it. I awoke on Sunday morning to very mild temperatures and pouring rain. Heiko’s star was visible in the darkness (for some reason I get up 6:00 AM even on the weekends) which is a very bad sign. If you are unfamiliar with Heiko’s star, it is the light at the top of the Bear Chair and seeing it when it is raining won’t make you happy.

I was at least hoping that the weather would break by lunchtime so that I could head up and check out the aerial competition as wet slushy conditions can be pretty fun but it got torrential outside. Unfortunate for sure but there isn’t much you can do about the weather except talk about it.

I think once the system completes its cycle and cooler temps move back in, the only place you will be able to get soft snow is up on White Pass which is usually high enough to avoid the rain line. Lets hopes those groomers can keep the boilerplate at bay on the rest of the mountain until the next storm system moves into the area.

I don’t know what to say about the world cup competition other than I hope people enjoyed it despite the bad weather on Sunday. Fingers crossed for next year I guess.
