There are days in Fernie when the powder is so deep you need a snorkel to breath while skiing. Today was not one of those days. No, today was one of those days when you wish your helmet had tail-fins.
Today was a day to go fast - ridiculously fast. Perfect blue skies, punctuated with a bright mid-winter sun, lit fairy dust trails of snow that hung suspended for just a moment; the only hint that moments before a skier had ripped past at a speed that forced them to reset their watches after.
With no new snow in the past few days I just couldn’t bring myself to test the off-piste today. But a fortuitous hook-up with Matt and Jason gave me the opportunity to grab some photos of skiers rippin’ the Bear today, as you’ll see below.
