LOCALS GEAR PICKS

January 5, 2003

Text and photos by Kevin McIsaac

The snow that started in the afternoon yesterday continued until late last night, depositing about 15cm of packed powder from mid-mountain up. The lower groomers were very hard, but the upper ones were in great shape.

Lori and I did a couple of warm-up runs down Bear. Behind us the ridges were decked out in gossamer clouds lit up by a brilliant sun we haven’t seen in a few days. There’s something about ripping down under a blue bird sky that gets everyone smiling.

Sunnyside lived up to its name today. And Cedar bowl still has a bunch of snow in it. The wind has firmed up the powder down the center, but there’re still good turns to be had in the trees.

Quote of the day:

“Yes, I see it. It’s beautiful. Can we go skiing now?”

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
