LOCALS GEAR PICKS

December 31, 2002

Text and photos by Kevin McIsaac

Last night the Griz finally combed out his beard and dropped more than 20cm of fresh powder on the hill. The lifts were groaning by 9:01 with skiers alert enough to look out the window last night before bed and then set their alarm early.

Harper, Angie and I stretched our legs on King Fir and Linda’s before abandoning the old side for the new. Siberia Ridge has been closed for the last few days, but finally opened today. All I can say is that today, it was a short hike to nirvana.

There are very few exposed rocks left on the hill, but there are still some hazards in the trees. There’s lots of powder, but it’s so light and fluffy that it’s easy to get deep enough to clip stumps and logs. So, ski with care.

Quote of the day:

“Wooooo hooooo.”

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
