The Ghostriders lost in O/T in Castlegar last Saturday night but will get another chance at the Rebels in game two of a home and home series on Friday. This is the last time we will see Castlegar in the regular season.

A few notes on the Rebels. The Rebels won both of their games last weekend, on Friday they had a 5-3 win at home against Spokane and on Saturday they defeated your Fernie Ghostriders in double overtime by a 4-3 score.

The Rebels are led by the KIJHL’s top scorer Ryan Aynsley -photo to the left- who has 14 G and 17 A for 31 points. Aynsley had 2 goals and 3 assists in 2 games last weekend. Erik Wentzel is next with 21 points and Taylor Anderson has 14 points. Their # 1 goaltender is Andrew Walton. Rebels are 8-2 in their last 10 games, have a 12 and 3 record and are in first place in their division. If you take penalties against this team you will pay the price as 20 of their 65 goals are PP goals. They also have 3 shorthanded goals and 642PIM.

We asked Head Coach and General Manager Will Verner about the game in Castlegar last Saturday. Here’s what his thoughts were. Verner  ”We had several opportunities in the 1st period to make it 3-0 and instead let them hang around and score a late goal to make it 2-1.  We had a strong road period but again let Castlegar off the hook.  Some credit needs to go to Andrew Walton (Castlegar’s Goalie) but we still need to score on the chances we had.  Castlegar is very hard working, gritty team that has good skill.  We will learn from our mistakes Saturday and rebound Tuesday night in Columbia Valley.  We do get to get right back at Castlegar Friday night at home.  Game time 7:30pm.  ”

“Players on Castlegar to watch include #19 Ryan Aynsley, #10 Matt Ridley, #4 Logan Tarasoff and #16 Anthony Delong.  #1 Andrew Walton was outstanding and was the 1st star of the match”.

Ghostriders play the Neil Murdoch Division’s Number 1 team the Castlegar Rebels on Friday night at 7:30

Ghostriders vs Nitehawks Friday @ 7:30 October 15, 2010

The Ghostriders play Beaver Valley tonight at 7:30 in the Fernie Memorial. Beaver Valley is one of the premier teams in the KIJHL and they play in a tough division. They have also scored 41 goals, but have allowed 42 so in all likelihood this will be a fun game for the fans to watch.

Ghostrider fans will also likely get their first look at new goaltender Taylor Pearis tonight. We’ll have more on Taylor in the next few days. That’s his photo to the left.

After last weekend the Nitehawks with 14 points were tied with Spokane for second place in their division. BV won their last game 6-4 against Golden…. The Hawks got off to a bit of a slow start but are 7-3 in their last ten games and their top scorers are Dallas Calvin 12 pts, Colton Donselar 11 pts and Ryan Sookro with 10 points….Dallas Calvin is only 16 so he will be worthy of some extra looks tonight.

A couple of Hawk player notes. Dan and Mike Vlanich are cousins of Fernie’s Jamie Vlanich, they are all from Trail BC. Former Rider Mason Spear is now with the Hawks and in a separate deal former Rider Keanan Patershuk is a Hawk as part of the Thomas Abenante trade. Photo Patershuk

Tomorrow the Riders are on the road to Beaver Valley then on Sunday they go to Spokane to play the always tough Braves. Next Friday it’s the Kimberley Dynamiters.
