The East Kootenay Invasive Species Council annual open house event is an opportunity for us to inform the public about our ongoing efforts in the area, collect feedback from the community, and thank those who are helping us stop the spread of invasive species in our community.

The East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC) is a non-profit society formed in 2008. EKISC consists of a cross section of stakeholders who are united in their efforts to effectively manage invasive species across the region.

From 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on September 28th, 2016 the staff from EKISC will be hosting an open house at the Fernie Arts Station: 601 1st Ave.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

17:00 Doors Open
17:30 – 17:45 Opening words
17:45 – 18:10 Slideshow Presentation
18:15 – 18:30 Learn how to use Report-A-Weed App
18:30 – 19:00 Open Q&A / Door prize draws
19:00 End of formal presentations / Food and drinks
19:00 – 20:00 Educational Displays / Interactive Maps.

Beginning at 5:30 pm, EKISC will open the event with a brief introduction of the council. We will deliver a short presentation of our achievements in your community, outlining what specifically we have done in your area and the future holds for invasive species control. A brief session of how to use the Report-A-Weed app will be held just before we open up the floor to an open question period. The Open Q&A session will be an opportunity for the public to ask questions of EKISC and partners. There will be door prizes drawn at 7:00 pm, at the end of our formal presentations.
From 7:00 pm onward, we will serve food and drinks and guests will have an opportunity to view our educational displays, pinpoint areas of concern on an interactive map, and participate in games to win prizes.
