The Arts Station – proposed Constitution and By-law Changes
A sub-committee of the board has been established to review the by-laws of the Fernie and District Arts Council (The Arts Station) in order to identify sections that would benefit from updates. The intent is to make our by-laws more relevant to today’s world by providing clarity where it is lacking and replacing or removing outdated sections with by-laws more suited to our current operating environment. This will assist the current and future boards in performing their governance duties and providing the membership with good leadership.
The suggested changes to the constitution are to add a reference to The Arts Station as the name by which the Fernie and District Arts Council is known and to update the mission statement. As part of our Five Year Plan update, the mission statement was identified as needing rewording.
We have tried to revise the by-laws so that they are accurate, relevant, leave little room for interpretation and assist the board in their management of The Arts Station. The original Roman numeral numbering system has been replaced with consecutive Arabic numbers for ease of reference. In the proposed constitution and by-law change document the original by-laws are followed by the proposed changes.
These by-laws have been reviewed and endorsed by the current board and will be reviewed and voted on by The Arts Station membership at the Annual General Meeting, Thursday, May 24th.
