The stage is set for the fourth annual Fernie Writers’ Conference on July 18-25, 2010. Canadian literary great Robert Kroetsch, rising star Steven Heighton and awardwinning songwriter Mae Moore are among the highlights of this week-long event.
Registration is still open with spaces available in most of the sessions. Through the generous support of our sponsors, scholarships are available for those in need of financial assistance. The Fernie Writers’ Conference is a celebration of writers and writing culminating in a twoday literary festival with Kroetsch, Heighton, Sid Marty, Peter Oliva and others. Three and five-day writing workshops form the backbone of the Conference with sessions on fiction, non-fiction, songwriting, screenwriting and poetry. The workshops are complemented by readings, panel discussions and literary events creating an educational experience for writers and readers alike.
First conceived of as a conference for writers to hone their skills and share experiences with other writers, the Conference has expanded to include a two-day festival open to the general public. The Festival’s keynote event includes a reading by Governor General’s Award winner Robert Kroetsch and an address by Governor General’s Award nominee W.H. New. A full schedule of events is posted on the Fernie Writers’ Conference website at
